Computers by Sord Computer Corporation
Sord Computer Corporation was founded in Japan in 1970 by Takayoshi Shiina. Its name combined software and hardware, reflecting Shiina's plan to create complete computer systems rather than treat programs and machines as separate businesses.
Sord became an important early Japanese microcomputer maker with systems including the SMP80/x, M200 business computers and the PIPS integrated information-processing software. It entered the international home market with the compact M5 in 1982 and produced advanced portable and business machines such as the M23P and IS-11. Toshiba acquired the company in 1985, but the Sord name was restored after a later sale in 2018.
