Sord M200

The Sord M200 was a substantial all-in-one business microcomputer announced in 1977. It combined a Z80A processor with an AMD arithmetic processor, a built-in 12-inch display and floppy storage in a professional desktop cabinet.

With 64KB of memory, an 80-column screen and Sord’s MF-DOS and Extended BASIC Plus, the M200 targeted scientific and commercial users who needed a complete working system rather than a kit.

Notable Features
  • Included an AMD Am9511 arithmetic processor alongside the Z80A.
  • Integrated a 12-inch green monitor and 5.25-inch floppy drive.
  • Supported as many as four floppy drives.
Historical Significance
  • An unusually complete and capable Japanese business microcomputer for 1977.
  • Demonstrated Sord’s early emphasis on combining proprietary software with finished hardware.
Collector’s Notes
  • At roughly 30kg, the M200 is much heavier than later desktop micros.
  • Disk mechanisms and original MF-DOS media are critical to restoration.
