Sord M23P

The Sord M23P repackaged the M23 business environment as a transportable computer. Its luggable cabinet contained twin 3.5-inch floppy drives and could use a compact LCD or an external colour monitor.

With 128KB of memory, Sord OS and CP/M support, the M23P brought familiar PIPS business applications to users who needed to move a complete workstation between offices or demonstrations.

Notable Features
  • Portable version of the M23 architecture weighing about 9kg.
  • Twin 3.5-inch floppy drives reduced the bulk of its storage system.
  • Supported an 80x8 LCD or a full external CRT display.
Historical Significance
  • An early attempt to make a complete Japanese business microcomputer transportable.
  • Preserved M23 and PIPS software compatibility in a distinctive luggable format.
Collector’s Notes
  • The optional LCD has far fewer text rows than the external display mode.
  • Check the condition of the carrying hardware, display connections and uncommon 3.5-inch drives.
