Miles Gordon Technology, better known as MGT, was founded in Cambridge in 1986 by former Sinclair Research employees Alan Miles and Bruce Gordon. The company first specialised in capable disk and printer interfaces for the ZX Spectrum, including the DISCiPLE and +D.
MGT then developed the SAM Coupé, an ambitious British home computer with enhanced graphics, sound, memory and Spectrum compatibility. Launched in 1989, the SAM was technically impressive but arrived as the 8-bit market was fading. MGT entered receivership in 1990, after which Miles and Gordon briefly continued the machine through SAM Computers.
