Bruce Gordon was a hardware designer at Sinclair Research before forming Miles Gordon Technology with Alan Miles in 1986. His early work at MGT included the DISCiPLE and +D interfaces, which added reliable disk storage and printer support to the ZX Spectrum.
Gordon designed the hardware of the SAM Coupé, including its custom ASIC, enhanced graphics and sound architecture, memory system and Spectrum-compatible mode. The finished machine offered an unusually polished extension of the 8-bit home-computer idea.
After MGT entered receivership in 1990, Gordon and Miles continued the SAM through a successor company. Although its commercial life was brief, Gordon's design earned a lasting reputation for ingenuity among British computer enthusiasts.
