Toshio Iue worked with his brother-in-law Konosuke Matsushita before founding Sanyo Electric in 1947. The company’s first major product was a generator-powered bicycle lamp, followed by radios, washing machines and a widening range of consumer electronics.
Sanyo’s emphasis on accessible mass-market products continued after Iue’s death and eventually extended into personal computing. The PHC home computers, low-cost MBC 16-bit desktops and later MSX systems all reflected the company’s broad engineering and manufacturing base.
