Sanyo Electric was founded by Toshio Iue in 1947 and developed into one of Japan’s major consumer-electronics manufacturers. Its computer business was unusually varied, covering proprietary home machines, affordable 16-bit desktops, MSX systems and manufacturing for other brands.
The PHC series represented Sanyo’s early home-computer work, while the MBC-550 and MBC-555 offered low-cost 8088 business computing with strong colour graphics. Sanyo later produced a broad MSX range under names including MPC and Wavy, culminating in capable MSX2 and MSX2+ systems.
