Sanyo MBC-550

The Sanyo MBC-550 was a low-cost 16-bit desktop with an Intel 8088, high-resolution colour graphics and MS-DOS. Its architecture resembled the IBM PC but was not completely hardware compatible.

An unusually affordable entry into 16-bit business computing, it attracted users through strong graphics and value despite compatibility limitations.

Notable Features
  • High-resolution colour graphics
  • Low launch price for an 8088 system
  • MS-DOS with partial rather than full IBM compatibility
Historical Significance
