Dick Greenwood was a British electronics entrepreneur and the driving force behind Camputers, the company that created the Lynx home computer. Before entering the computer market he ran Cambridge-based GW Design Services, which developed electronic products for outside clients.
After his company built prototype computer hardware for another customer, Greenwood decided that the growing British microcomputer market offered an opportunity for a product of its own. He assembled a small team in 1982, with John Shirreff designing the system architecture and Davis Jansons writing the software.
Greenwood founded Camputers to manufacture and market the Lynx. He also shaped the machine’s physical appearance and worked with Martin Crutchley on its case and mechanics. The Lynx offered unusually colourful high-resolution graphics, but production delays, high costs and a rapidly changing market limited its commercial success.
