Fujitsu FM77AV20EX

The Fujitsu FM77AV20EX refined the AV20 with faster memory access and expanded audio-visual options. It retained the 4,096-colour display and 640KB disk format while improving responsiveness in software designed for the enhanced memory controller.

The EX generation also supported video digitisation, extending the FM77AV’s role in home graphics and image work. It remained compatible with much of the earlier FM software library.

Notable Features
  • Enhanced memory access could improve speed by roughly 25 percent.
  • Added support for video digitisation hardware.
Historical Significance
  • Kept the lower-cost AV20 line competitive as 16-bit machines grew more common.
  • Shared the EX generation’s software improvements with the AV40EX.
Collector’s Notes
  • Video digitisation hardware may be optional depending on configuration.
  • EX-specific capabilities require suitable software.
