Fujitsu FM Towns II HR

The Fujitsu FM Towns II HR introduced a 20 MHz 80486SX and 4MB of RAM to the Towns range. Its horizontal desktop case, front-loading CD-ROM and three-mode floppy drives accompanied a substantial increase in processor performance.

HR20, HR100 and HR200 configurations offered different hard-disk capacities. The 486 platform improved Windows and productivity use while maintaining the multimedia graphics and sound expected of Towns software.

Notable Features
  • First Towns generation with an 80486 processor.
  • Standard 4MB RAM and improved storage made Windows use more practical.
Historical Significance
  • Marked the Towns transition from a specialised multimedia computer toward a broader 486 desktop.
  • Shared the redesigned horizontal case with the HG.
Collector’s Notes
  • HR20, HR100 and HR200 refer to hard-disk configurations.
  • CPU upgrades and cache options may differ among revisions.
