Fujitsu FM-NEW7

The Fujitsu FM-NEW7 was a cost-reduced redesign of the FM-7. Greater integration reduced the component count and price while preserving the familiar dual-processor architecture, 64KB memory and eight-colour display.

Software compatibility let existing FM-7 owners and Japanese schools adopt the new model without abandoning their established library. The lower price kept the platform competitive as the more advanced FM-77 arrived.

Notable Features
  • Used custom integration to reduce cost while retaining FM-7 compatibility.
  • Preserved the dual-6809 design and colourful graphics.
Historical Significance
  • Brought the FM-7 platform below ¥100,000.
  • Sold alongside the disk-oriented FM-77 generation.
Collector’s Notes
  • Its close compatibility can make an FM-NEW7 easy to confuse with an FM-7 in listings.
  • Check the case badge and rear-panel arrangement.
