Dave Bristow became closely associated with Yamaha’s digital instruments and music-computer products during the 1980s. As a programmer, sound designer and principal CX5M demonstrator, he translated complex FM synthesis and computer-music ideas into practical tools for musicians and educators.
Bristow demonstrated the CX5M’s SFG synthesis module, MIDI facilities and composition software in publications, workshops and public events. His work helped establish the Yamaha music-computer concept beyond the conventional home-computer market and connected it with the emerging MIDI studio.
