Tatung is a Taiwanese industrial and electronics company whose history dates to 1918. By the 1970s and 1980s it had become a major manufacturer of consumer electronics, displays and computer equipment, with operations extending well beyond Taiwan.
Tatung's best-known home computer was the Einstein TC-01, designed at the company's Bradford laboratory and built in Britain in 1984. Its Z80 processor, 64KB of RAM, 16-colour graphics and built-in 3-inch disk drive made it especially useful as a development machine, although its higher price limited mainstream sales. The revised Einstein 256 followed in 1985.
