Timex Computer 2068

The Timex Computer 2068 was the Portuguese production continuation of the American Timex Sinclair 2068. It retained the 48KB RAM, 24KB ROM, cartridge system, enhanced SCLD graphics and AY sound while adapting video output and branding for European markets.

Timex Portugal supported the machine after the American operation closed, selling it in Portugal and Poland and developing disk, networking and software products. A Spectrum-emulator cartridge allowed much of the larger Sinclair software library to run.

Notable Features
  • European PAL production version of the enhanced TS2068 architecture.
  • Cartridge system supported instant software and Spectrum-compatible ROM replacements.
  • Timex Portugal continued development with FDD3000 storage and networking products.
Historical Significance
  • Preserved and extended the most advanced Timex Sinclair design after its short American life.
  • Part of a distinctive Portuguese and Polish branch of Spectrum-compatible computing.
Collector’s Notes
  • Case colour, labels and video standard vary by market and production batch.
  • Original ROM, cartridges and FDD3000 equipment are important parts of a complete collection.
