Tandy 1000 SL

The Tandy 1000 SL used an 8 MHz 8086 and introduced the PSSJ sound system with digital recording and playback. The later SL/2 revised memory and adopted a 3.5-inch drive while preserving the same architecture.

Its improved keyboard protocol, audio input and integrated interfaces represented the mature XT-class Tandy 1000 desktop.

Notable Features
  • Processing is provided by Intel 8086 at 8 MHz.
  • The standard memory configuration was 384KB on SL or 512KB on SL/2; expandable to 640KB.
  • Display hardware provided Tandy Video II with sixteen-colour and Hercules-compatible modes.
Historical Significance
  • Its improved keyboard protocol, audio input and integrated interfaces represented the mature XT-class Tandy 1000 desktop.
  • Storage-only and minor motherboard revisions are documented on this page rather than treated as separate products.
Collector’s Notes
  • Confirm the catalogue number, processor, memory and drives because similar Tandy cases were sold in several configurations.
  • Original DeskMate or system disks, keyboards, monitors and Radio Shack documentation add historical value.
