Tandy 1000 RLX

The Tandy 1000 RLX replaced the traditional Tandy video subsystem with VGA while retaining a 10 MHz 80286, compact case and ROM-based software. Hard-disc configurations were sold as RLX/HD models.

It was the transitional compact 1000 between the XT-oriented RL and the genuinely AT-class 386SX-based RSX.

Notable Features
  • Processing is provided by Intel 80286 at 10 MHz.
  • The standard memory configuration was 512KB or 1MB; expandable with limited extended memory.
  • Display hardware provided VGA graphics with 256KB video memory.
Historical Significance
  • It was the transitional compact 1000 between the XT-oriented RL and the genuinely AT-class 386SX-based RSX.
  • Storage-only and minor motherboard revisions are documented on this page rather than treated as separate products.
Collector’s Notes
  • Confirm the catalogue number, processor, memory and drives because similar Tandy cases were sold in several configurations.
  • Original DeskMate or system disks, keyboards, monitors and Radio Shack documentation add historical value.
