Sharp X68000 SUPER

The Sharp X68000 SUPER modernised the storage architecture of the X68000 range by replacing the earlier SASI interface with SCSI. The SUPER-HD appeared in 1990 with an 80MB hard disk, followed by a floppy-only SUPER configuration in 1991.

It retained the 10 MHz 68000-class processor, 2MB of RAM and twin-tower case, while the standard SCSI interface made hard-disk expansion more practical.

Notable Features
  • Introduced a standard SCSI interface to the X68000 family.
  • SUPER-HD shipped with an 80MB SCSI hard disk.
  • 2MB RAM and the established custom graphics and sound hardware.
Historical Significance
  • SCSI made later storage upgrades easier and established the interface used by subsequent X68000 models.
  • Served as the bridge between the 10 MHz EXPERT generation and the faster XVI.
Collector's Notes
  • Modern SCSI emulators are popular replacements for failing original drives.
  • Power-supply and backup-battery maintenance remain important.
