Camputers Lynx 128

The Camputers Lynx 128 was a faster redesign of the range, using a 6MHz Z80B and 128KB of RAM. Additional on-board expansion could raise memory to 192KB, giving the machine considerably greater capacity than most contemporary British home computers.

The improved processor and memory supported disk-based CP/M and larger native programs while preserving the Lynx’s high-resolution colour graphics. Camputers later relaunched this model under the Laureate name.

Notable Features
  • 6MHz Z80B provided a substantial processor-speed increase over earlier Lynx models.
  • 128KB standard memory could be expanded to 192KB on board.
  • Later marketed as the Camputers Laureate.
Historical Significance
  • The technical peak of the Camputers range.
  • Combined unusually large memory and fast Z80 processing before the British company’s collapse.
Collector’s Notes
  • Laureate is a later name for the 128KB architecture rather than a wholly unrelated machine.
  • Memory boards, ROM revision and disk compatibility should be documented for surviving examples.
