Atari Stacy 2

The Atari Stacy 2 expanded Atari’s portable ST to 2MB of RAM. The principal configuration paired its internal 3.5-inch floppy drive with a 20MB hard disk, while a dual-floppy version was also offered, all using the built-in 640x400 monochrome LCD and trackball.

Extra memory and local hard-disk storage made the Stacy 2 a far more practical travelling workstation for sequencing, notation, word processing and development. It remained fully compatible with monochrome ST software and standard MIDI equipment.

Notable Features
  • 2MB of RAM and a 640x400 monochrome LCD.
  • Commonly supplied with one floppy drive and a 20MB hard disk; a dual-floppy version also existed.
Historical Significance
  • Made the Stacy design more useful for professional mobile work than the 1MB floppy-only base model.
  • Its combination of MIDI and portability was unusual in the late 1980s.
Collector’s Notes
  • Confirm whether a machine is the hard-disk or dual-floppy configuration.
  • Old internal hard disks and battery compartments frequently require attention.
