Atari 2080STF

The Atari 2080STF was a proposed 2MB member of the integrated ST range, presented at the Personal Computer World Show in September 1986. It would have extended the 1040STF design with twice the memory while retaining the 8 MHz Motorola 68000, internal floppy drive and original ST graphics architecture.

Rapidly rising memory costs and Atari’s work on the professional Mega ST 2 removed the commercial case for the model. The 2080STF never entered retail production and survives as an announced prototype-era configuration rather than a released computer.

Notable Features
  • Planned 2MB version of the integrated STF design.
  • Retained the 8 MHz 68000 and standard ST graphics, sound and interfaces.
Historical Significance
  • Presented in September 1986 but never released.
  • Cancelled as memory costs rose and the desktop Mega ST 2 moved toward production.
Collector’s Notes
  • Contemporary announcements and proposed prices are more common than surviving hardware.
  • Do not confuse dealer-upgraded ST systems with an Atari production 2080STF.
