Atari 1040STFM

The Atari 1040STFM combined the 1040 series’ 1MB of RAM with an internal floppy drive, internal power supply and RF television modulator. It provided the practical all-in-one arrangement of the 520STFM while offering twice the memory for larger applications and more demanding games.

Sold in several markets and produced in multiple revisions, the 1040STFM became a long-lived mainstream ST configuration. It retained the original ST graphics and sound architecture, including built-in MIDI, while later bundles helped carry the range into the early 1990s.

Notable Features
  • Combined 1MB of RAM with an internal floppy drive, power supply and RF television modulator.
  • Supported the same software and peripherals as other original ST-family machines.
Historical Significance
  • Offered a convenient higher-memory counterpart to the popular 520STFM.
  • Remained part of Atari’s mainstream computer range into the early 1990s in some markets.
Collector’s Notes
  • Case badges, motherboard revisions and floppy mechanisms vary across its long production life.
  • The RF modulator distinguishes it from the otherwise similar 1040STF.
