Apple Macintosh LC III

Apple Macintosh LC III was introduced in 10 February 1993 and redesigned the budget desktop around a faster full-width 68030 memory path. It used a Motorola 68030 at 25 MHz with 4MB standard; expandable to 36MB. 25MHz 68030 and 32-bit bus corrected the LC II's main bottleneck.

The LC III delivered a large practical performance increase and formed the basis of numerous Performa configurations.

Notable Features
  • 25MHz 68030 and 32-bit bus corrected the LC II's main bottleneck.
  • Memory ceiling rose to 36MB.
  • Revised LC III PDS required compatible expansion cards.
Historical Significance

  • Its place in the range reflects Apple's progression from the original compact Macintosh toward broader professional, educational and portable markets.
