Apple Macintosh IIci

Apple Macintosh IIci was introduced in 20 September 1989 and combined a faster 68030, built-in colour video and cache slot in the successful IIcx enclosure. It used a Motorola 68030 at 25 MHz with 1MB standard; expandable to 128MB. Integrated video reduced the need for a NuBus display card.

Strong performance, expandability and reliability made the IIci one of the longest-lived and most respected modular 68K Macs.

Notable Features
  • Integrated video reduced the need for a NuBus display card.
  • 32KB cache card substantially improved performance.
  • Three NuBus slots and a separate cache slot supported extensive upgrades.
Historical Significance
  • Strong performance, expandability and reliability made the IIci one of the longest-lived and most respected modular 68K Macs.
  • Its place in the range reflects Apple's progression from the original compact Macintosh toward broader professional, educational and portable markets.
Collector’s Notes
  • Cache cards, original video-memory configurations and clean battery compartments are desirable
  • Original keyboards, mice, storage devices and model-specific accessories help document a complete period configuration.
