Apple Macintosh Classic II

Apple Macintosh Classic II was introduced in 21 October 1991 and brought a 68030 processor to Apple's entry-level monochrome compact line. It used a Motorola 68030 at 16 MHz with 2MB standard; expandable to 10MB. 68030 CPU enabled virtual memory and modern system software.

It was faster and more capable than the Classic but a 16-bit memory bus kept it below the celebrated SE/30.

Notable Features
  • 68030 CPU enabled virtual memory and modern system software.
  • Ten-megabyte RAM ceiling supported substantially larger applications.
  • 16-bit data path constrained performance compared with the SE/30.
Historical Significance
  • It was faster and more capable than the Classic but a 16-bit memory bus kept it below the celebrated SE/30.
  • Its place in the range reflects Apple's progression from the original compact Macintosh toward broader professional, educational and portable markets.
Collector’s Notes
  • It is sometimes confused with the Performa 200, a rebadged version of the same hardware
  • Original keyboards, mice, storage devices and model-specific accessories help document a complete period configuration.
