Apple iMac G3 Five Flavours

The Apple iMac G3 Five Flavours generation replaced the original Bondi model in January 1999. Revision C ran at 266 MHz and Revision D at 333 MHz, retaining the tray-loading optical drive while simplifying the original logic board.

Apple offered Blueberry, Grape, Lime, Strawberry and Tangerine cases. Those colours and the two processor revisions are variations of one closely related product generation and are documented together here.

Notable Features
  • Five translucent fruit colours: Blueberry, Grape, Lime, Strawberry and Tangerine.
  • Revision C used a 266 MHz G3 and Revision D increased speed to 333 MHz.
  • Retained the tray-loading CD-ROM and 15-inch CRT of the original iMac.
Historical Significance
  • The colourful range turned the computer’s finish into a prominent purchasing choice.
  • Its marketing helped establish personalisation and industrial design as defining consumer-computer features.
Collector’s Notes
  • Colour, processor speed and model number identify the exact revision.
  • Matching keyboards and puck mice are especially useful with the less common colours.
