Biography

Peter Horne trained in electrical and electronic engineering and earned a doctorate in statistical pattern recognition. Before joining Apricot he worked on early networking at CERN and on multiprocessor image-analysis systems at Cambridge Scientific Instruments.

Horne joined the company in February 1983 as technical director and established its internal research and development division. That group carried Apricot beyond its first externally designed machines and produced a series of technically distinctive business computers, portable systems and networked PCs.

He became managing director in 1989 and guided the company through a difficult period as the market consolidated around IBM-compatible standards and the hardware business was acquired by Mitsubishi.
